The Smithfield Café was founded by James Petrolias, a Greek immigrant in 1933. He bought a then defunct restaurant at 639 Smithfield Street during the height of the Great Depression.
Today, 73 years later, that 40 seat tavern is a 220 seat full service restaurant serving over 400 meals per day & offers downtown an inexpensive alternative to high priced restaurants. Operated by James' son, John & grandson, Jamie. Reservations for parties of 6 or more is recommended.
